Forensic Significance — Thallium Acetate
Thallium acetate is a soluble thallium compound. In solution it is colourless, odourless, and tasteless — effectively undetectable in wine or any beverage without laboratory analysis. The lethal dose for a 60–65 kg adult is approximately 10–15 mg/kg body weight. A 250g acquisition is approximately 25,000× the dose required for a single fatality. Thallium poisoning presents initially as gastrointestinal distress before neurological progression — symptoms may be attributed to alcohol consumption in early hours. Detection requires specific thallium toxicology screens, which are not part of standard post-mortem panels.
TIMELINE CROSS-REFERENCE: The purchase was made on 14 February 2025 — Valentine's Day — exactly 35 days before the murder. The same month, Deepa Singhania made three cash withdrawals from her personal account totalling ₹1.8 lakh, and transferred ₹45,000 to an account registered to "JMR Foundation, Jaipur." The foundation's account received no other transfers.
CRITICAL LINK: The "JMR Foundation" referenced in Deepa Singhania's bank statement (E12) is the Jaipur Materials Research Foundation — the entity used to acquire this thallium. The mobile number on the KYC form is registered to Deepa Singhania. The foundation's registered address is a mailbox, not a real research facility. It was created two months before the purchase and has no documented activity.
