Body Position at Discovery
Vikram Desai found lying face-down on the floor, approximately 1.1 metres north of the bookshelf on the east wall. Head oriented away from bookshelf. Left arm extended, right arm beneath torso. Reading glasses found beneath chest — unbroken.
Analyst Note: Initial attending officers recorded scene as "apparent accidental fall near bookshelf." Crime scene examination does not support this conclusion. See Inconsistency Flags below.

Inconsistency Flags
FLAG 1 — Body Position: If death resulted from an accidental collision with the bookshelf, the body would be expected to fall in proximity to the shelf with impact evidence on the shelf itself. No such evidence exists. The drag trail confirms the body was repositioned after the fatal event.
FLAG 2 — Impact Trajectory: The forensic post-mortem report (E01) establishes that the impact wound is on the left parieto-occipital region at a downward angle inconsistent with the victim walking into a fixed vertical surface. The trajectory is consistent with a downward strike from a standing person behind the victim.
FLAG 3 — Missing Weapon: A glass paperweight approximately 8.5 cm in diameter that was present in the office within the past 60 days is absent from the scene. The circular impression in desk dust places it on the right side of the desk — within reach of a person standing beside the desk. This item has not been recovered.
FLAG 4 — Paper Scatter: The document scatter pattern is inconsistent with a single person falling from standing height. The arc and flat-edge condition of the sheets indicates they were scattered deliberately, likely to reinforce the appearance of a disorganised accidental fall.
Scene Conclusion
Crime scene evidence does not support the initial characterisation of accidental death. Physical evidence is consistent with: (1) victim struck from behind while seated or standing near desk; (2) body subsequently moved toward bookshelf; (3) side table partially overturned and papers scattered to create impression of accident; (4) weapon removed from scene prior to discovery. Scene is consistent with staged homicide.
