"I have been a partner at Desai & Associates for four years. Mr. Vikram Desai was the senior partner — he founded the firm. I joined as an associate and was made junior partner about two years ago.

On the 6th of March, I was working late on a brief — a court filing due on the 10th. I was in my office, Room 1402. Vikram called me at some point in the evening — I think it was around 7:45 — just to check something about the filing. A brief call. I told him I would sort it and we hung up. He called again later — maybe 8:30 or so — but it was very short, I think I may have already been leaving. I did not speak much.

I finished my work at approximately 8 o'clock. I packed up, took the lift down, and left the building. I cannot say exactly — maybe 8, maybe a bit before. I took a taxi home. I don't remember seeing anyone in particular when I left.

I heard about Vikram's death the next morning when Arjun called me. I was shocked. He was a very private man, very careful. I cannot imagine who would have wanted to harm him."
